Step Inside FCJ College: Remembrance to Robotics

Sep 5, 2025

This week has been filled with rich learning opportunities, inspiring experiences, and outstanding student achievements across the year levels.

Our Year 10 cohort travelled to Melbourne to visit the Holocaust Museum and the Shrine of Remembrance. At the museum, students had the privilege of hearing the courageous yet tragic story of Peter, a Holocaust survivor, which offered a deeply personal insight into this dark chapter of history. Later, at the Shrine, students explored the Crypt, the Sanctuary, the Eternal Flame, and other significant artefacts. Their conduct throughout the day was exemplary, reflecting respect and maturity at these important sites of remembrance.

Year 11 Systems Engineering students have been hard at work designing line-following robots. Students created acrylic chassis, used CAD to 3D-printcustom brackets, and carefully assembled circuits to power their designs. Through testing and refining their code, they successfully programmed their robots to follow a light-coloured line across a dark surface—an impressive demonstration of creativity, problem-solving, and engineering skills.

Biology students visited the Tatura SmartFarm, a leading centre for scientific research in horticulture. The experience gave students valuable insight into innovative practices that balance economic productivity with environmental sustainability, linking classroom learning with real-world applications.

Our Year 7 SEPEP students participated in a soccer pool, taking on roles not only as players but also as coaches, umpires, managers, and statisticians. This student-centred approach fosters teamwork, leadership, and a deeper understanding of sport beyond the game itself.

Congratulations to the 89 students who proudly represented FCJ College at the Southern Ranges Track and Field Championships. Their dedication, determination, and school spirit were on full display, with records broken and a fantastic haul of ribbons and placings. We look forward to seeing many of you compete at Regionals—well done to all competitors!

Finally, we wish our Year 11 students a fun and memorable evening at their Formal tonight. May it be a celebration of friendships, achievements, and the exciting journey ahead.
