Step Inside FCJ College: Embracing Challenge & Growth

Our students continue to step beyond their comfort zones, embrace new experiences and discover the confidence that comes from trying something new.

Our Year 9 students are progressing through their Rite Journey, participating in a range of experiences designed to encourage collaboration, resilience and personal growth. Alongside their mentor, students have learned new skills outside of school, ranging from street art stencilling to farming. Back in the classroom, students have also had the opportunity to get behind the drum kit with Mr Dunstan, learning a new rhythm.

They have also taken on a range of kindness, communication and collaboration challenges, including the Kind Words Only activity, an egg drop, a following instructions challenge and a Silent Build, where teams constructed a bridge strong enough to hold three juggling balls — without saying a word! While fun and sometimes frustrating, these activities encouraged students to practise communication, patience, perseverance, kindness and teamwork.

Our Year 9 Outdoor Education students have also taken on adventure, spending two days developing their skills through mountain biking in Mansfield, along with abseiling and rock climbing at Mount Pilot in Chiltern-Mount Pilot National Park. These experiences challenged students physically and mentally while building resilience, independence and confidence in the outdoors.

For our Year 8 students, a trip to Melbourne offered a chance to experience the magic of live theatre. Students attended A Beautiful Noise, the Broadway musical celebrating the life and music of legendary performer Neil Diamond. It was a big day, stretching into the evening, but our Year 8 cohort were a credit to the College, thoroughly enjoying the experience and conducting themselves exceptionally well throughout the day.

Closer to home, our The Addams Family cast and crew have been working tirelessly in preparation for opening night. After months of rehearsals, our talented students took to the stage today for a special preview performance for our local primary school students, giving our young visitors the opportunity to experience live theatre, while allowing our cast to showcase their hard work.

Their dedication, creativity and commitment have been wonderful to see, with students and staff working together to bring this much-loved musical to life. We can’t wait to see them take to the stage for opening night tonight!

There is still plenty to look forward to, with our Year 11 Formal happening next Friday. Students have continued with their professional dance lessons, making progress with their routines and enjoying plenty of laughs along the way. We look forward to seeing them dressed up, hitting the dance floor and celebrating together on the night!

And for our Year 9 students, another exciting part of their journey is just around the corner. Next week, they will head to Happy Valley for their action-packed Year 9 Camp.

With so many new experiences, challenges and opportunities to work together, camp will provide another chance for students to strengthen connections, try something new and create memories together.

We look forward to seeing them embrace the experience, support one another, grow in confidence and discover what they are capable of.
