Step Inside FCJ College: Balanced Learning

Aug 21, 2026

At FCJ College, we believe in the importance of balanced learning. Providing our students with opportunities to grow academically, physically, creatively and socially, while developing the courage and confidence to discover who they are and how they can contribute to the world around them.

Education is about so much more than what happens inside the classroom. It is about companionship, belonging and opportunity. From celebrating our history and building connections, to supporting one another with gentleness, embracing leadership and making a difference. There are so many ways for our students to learn, participate and belong at FCJ College.

This was certainly evident on Founders Day, our biggest day on the school calendar. Whether you were staff or student, young or old, in Year 7 or Year 12, everyone came together to celebrate our history, our community and what it means to be FCJ College.

There was such a wonderful sense of joy throughout the day as our community participated, cheered, laughed, broke bread and celebrated together. We were also blown away by the generosity of our families, with many of our stalls and activities relying on donations and support from our community.

Founders Day was not only a celebration, but an opportunity to put justice into action. As a college, we are working towards a long-term goal of raising $10,000 to help fund three two-unit buildings, providing safe homes for six families in Malbago Village in the Philippines. The generosity shown through our Founders Day activities forms part of this ongoing fundraising effort, and we were incredibly grateful to see our community get behind the cause. Every contribution helps us move closer to our goal and make a genuine difference to families in need.

It was also the perfect farewell to our visiting students from Sacred Heart Tokyo, who returned home on Monday after two wonderful weeks at FCJ College. It has been a pleasure having them aspart of our college community, and particularly special to share Founders Day with them. We hope they take home many happy memories, new friendships and stories of their Australian adventures. We wish them safe travels and all the very best for the future!

Our commitment to meaningful experiences continues through SEPEP – the Sport Education in Physical Education Program. Our Year 7, 8 and 9 students have been putting their skills into action through soccer, netball and korfball, while also taking responsibility for coaching, umpiring, scoring, team management and competition organisation. It is a wonderful example of learning beyond simply playing sport, giving students opportunities to develop leadership, teamwork, courage and confidence, while ensuring everyone has a role in which they can contribute.

Next week, we will build on this with our inaugural FCJ Collympics! Students will participate in activities including tennis, AFL 7s, basketball and frisbee golf, with the day designed to promote teamwork, inclusion, resilience and school spirit. We can't wait to see everyone getting involved and helping launch what we hope will become a much-loved FCJ College tradition.

As we settle into the second semester and look towards end-of-year assessments and exams, students who need a little extra support, or would like to do some additional study, can access Maths Help every Wednesday lunchtime in the School Library, where our Mathematics Learning Leader is available to provide one-on-one assistance with homework, assessment preparation and challenging concepts.

Just as importantly, it has become a space where students support students. Working alongside classmates, students share ideas, explain different approaches, solve problems and encourage one another. Sometimes a concept explained by a peer can make all the difference, and it is wonderful to see this culture of support and companionship in action.

A big thank you to Mrs Ramage for creating this welcoming space, and to the students who take the time to support their peers.
