Step Inside FCJ College: A Snapshot of Student Life This Week
Aug 29, 2025

This week has been full of energy, achievement, and community spirit across the school.
Our Year 10 Physical Education and Outdoor Education classes, along with Year 12 PE students, had the incredible opportunity to take part in wheelchair basketball thanks to the Goulburn Valley Gangarru Parasports team. Instructors Simon, Jaz, and Judline guided students—and even some staff members—through the fast-paced game. The session was not only a heap of fun, but also a powerful insight into the strength, skill, and resilience of para-athletes. Let’s just say some of us will be working on our upper-body strength before attempting another shot!
Meanwhile, Crochet Club paused its work on the Teddy Bear Drive to create colourful adornments for Wear It Purple Day, helping our school celebrate inclusivity and diversity. Their creations brought a bright splash of purple to this special day of belonging and support.
The Teddy Bear Drive, led by our Social Justice and Environment Captains Molly and Elizabeth, continues as part of our Term 3 fundraising for Malbago Village in the Philippines. They’re calling on all crochet and knitting enthusiasts to donate wool, stuffing, hooks, or even pre-loved teddies to help them spread kindness—one teddy at a time.
Sporting spirit was also alive and well at the Year 7–10 Round Robin. Students travelled as far as Alexandra and as close as Benalla, competing in sports including dodgeball, basketball and table tennis. Congratulations to the Year 7 and Year 10 girls’ teams, who both qualified for the next stage—a fantastic achievement! More importantly, all students represented the school with pride and embraced the chance to step outside their comfort zones in some friendly competition.
The Year 9 Showcase was another highlight, with students presenting their first exhibition of work for the semester. Displays included projects on historical figures, sustainability and environmental initiatives, and even a beautiful one-of-a-kind Vivienne Westwood custom made wedding dress. Congratulations to all students on such an inspiring display of talent and creativity.
And finally, excitement is building for the Year 11 Formal on Friday 5 September. Tickets are now on sale, with the night promising to be a memorable celebration for our senior students.
All in all, it’s been a week that showcased the creativity, talent, and spirit of our students—reminding us once again of the vibrant community we’re so proud to be part of.
