Apr 24, 2025

FCJ College Benalla is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Joseph Mount as the next Principal of FCJ College, effective Tuesday 22 April 2025.

The announcement comes during a significant milestone in the life of the College as it celebrates 125 years of Catholic education in Benalla. Mr Mount’s appointment marks a new chapter in the College’s proud history, building on its legacy of faith, learning and community.

Mr Mount brings more than 20 years of experience in Catholic education. He has served at FCJ College since 2010, holding senior leadership roles since 2011, and acting as Principal on three occasions. Prior to his time in Benalla, he taught at St Kevin’s College, Loyola College and through Access Education in Melbourne, developing a strong foundation in science education, curriculum development and student wellbeing.

A highly qualified educator and leader, Mr Mount holds a Master of Education and Theology from Catholic Theological College, a Diploma of Education, and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Melbourne. He is formally accredited to teach and lead Religious Education in Catholic schools and has completed leadership formation through the National Excellence in School Leadership Institute (NESLI). He is also an accredited Growth Coach.

Joseph is known for his strong Catholic faith, inclusive leadership, and commitment to data-informed strategic improvement. His vision aligns closely with the College’s Identity Statement and the implementation of the diocesan-wide Magnify initiative.

In his application, Mr Mount wrote:

“I have come to love FCJ Benalla people and place. I am passionately invested in our future. I have had a significant hand in shaping our recent culture and standing within the community; yet I have work to do and I believe I am the one to lead our College into the future.”

His appointment follows a rigorous selection process and has been approved by the FCJ College Council, on the recommendation of the Selection Panel, ratified by the FCJ Education Australia Board, and endorsed by Bishop Shane Mackinlay, Bishop of Sandhurst.

Chair of the College Council, Ms Pauline Fisher, expressed her gratitude to all involved in the process:

“We are deeply thankful to the members of the Selection Panel and our dedicated staff who supported the discernment process. Joseph’s appointment ensures strong and steady leadership as we look to the future with confidence and faith.”

Mr Mount will officially commence his role as Principal on 22 April 2025.
