Step Inside FCJ College: Learning Beyond the Classroom
May 8, 2026

Wishing all our mums, and the wider network of carers and supporters in our FCJ College community, a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend, as we take time to recognise the important role they play in our lives. We also hold in our thoughts and prayers those who may find this time difficult and remember with gratitude the mothers and mother figures who have touched our lives.
In the lead-up to Mother’s Day, our VET Business students, alongside our Vocational Major cohort, successfully organised and ran a Mother’s Day Stall. Students across the school were able to purchase delicious, sweet treats for their loved ones. The initiative was highly successful, demonstrating strong organisation, teamwork and customer service skills, while also fostering gratitude and connection across our school through a meaningful student-led enterprise.
Our Year 9 students recently presented their first Showcase, working collaboratively in teams to design and develop projects within their chosen fields. Their work included innovative branding concepts and the design of eco-friendly towns and buildings. The creativity, problem-solving and collaboration on display were exceptional, and we look forward to their individual showcases later in the semester.
Year 8 students took part in the Live4Life Launch, enjoying a day focused on connection and wellbeing. The event was brought to life by our Year 9 and 10 Live4Life crew, who designed and facilitated a wide range of activities including face painting, inflatable games, karaoke, a photo booth, eating challenges and tug of war. Activities led by Benalla Police further strengthened the sense of partnership and community that underpins this important program.
Outdoor Education has had a busy and highly engaging start to the term across all year levels, with students participating in a range of practical outdoor experiences. Year 9 students have been developing their skills through rock climbing and abseiling at Mt Pilot National Park, mountain biking at Mansfield, and preparing for their upcoming overnight hike.
Year 10 students completed an immersive overnight camp featuring a river journey from Bright to Porepunkah, kayaking, mountain biking at Mystic Park, and self-catering experiences that built independence and resilience.
VCE Outdoor and Environmental Studies students also undertook a three-day Mt Buffalo experience involving conservation work with Parks Victoria, abseiling, rock climbing, and reflective camp-based learning.
Across all year levels, students continue to demonstrate resilience, enthusiasm and a willingness to embrace challenges —core elements of meaningful experiential learning.
Looking ahead, enrolments are now open for 2027 and 2028. Families are encouraged to keep an eye on our social media for upcoming information nights, school tours and Meet the Principal mornings.

As we wrap up this edition, we celebrate the way our students continue to embrace learning experiences that extend well beyond the classroom, engaging in a wide range of opportunities that build skills, connection, courage and confidence. We are also reminded of the people in our lives who nurture, guide and leave a lasting impact on our lives.
