Step Inside FCJ College: Our Spirit in Action
Feb 20, 2026

Wow, what a week! From hands-on learning in the classroom to house pride in full voice, it has been an energised few days across FCJ College.
Our Year 10 Food Studies students brought the kitchen to life with their Design Your Own Risotto practical. Delicious aromas filled the room as students explored diverse interpretations of this classic dish. Beyond flavour, they developed valuable life skills — particularly mastering the timing required to achieve the perfect rice texture. A tasty lesson in patience, planning and precision!
In Year 8 Woodwork, stools are steadily taking shape. Students are immersed in the design process — measuring, cutting and sanding — with an impressive range of creative concepts already emerging. We look forward to seeing these functional pieces come to life over the coming weeks and will keep you posted.
Meanwhile, Year 8 Drama students explored how voice and body language communicate emotion, performing a short script titled Banana Custard, which tackled the story of an untimely death with striking dramatic flair.
Wednesday brought one of the highlights of the term — our Swimming Carnival. With perfect weather overhead, the day was filled with friendly competition, vibrant house spirit and enthusiastic cheering from the sidelines.
Our Student Engagement Officer, Nick, shared:
“Our House and Sports Captains did an outstanding job leading their teams. Davy House dominated the chants for points; they were loud and proud in supporting their swimmers. All houses created incredible chants, and it was clear our students were eager to display their house pride. I was extremely impressed”
Ten records were broken on the day — an incredible achievement! Congratulations to Joey McGuigan and Kadey Macklin, winners of our prestigious Victoire race, awarded to the fastest male and female student over 50 metres — an impressive accomplishment.
At the end of the day, D’Houet claimed this year’s bragging rights. A huge well done to all students who competed, supported their peers and embraced the carnival atmosphere. Our food stall volunteers were amazing — your efforts were greatly appreciated. Be sure to follow along on our social media for more photos from the day.
We’ll finish with the cutest (and fluffiest!) highlight of the week. Our VCE Agriculture & Horticulture Studies students enjoyed a visit from Sixty Acres Golden Retrievers’ latest litter for temperament testing — and plenty of cuddles. Serotonin levels were certainly high as the pups won everyone’s hearts!
Another action packed week here at FCJ College— we can’t wait to do it all again next week.
