Principal's Post

Oct 24, 2025

On Thursday, we celebrated our Year 12 cohort’s final day of formal classes. While most students will continue their studies in preparation for upcoming examinations, many have begun the transition into the workforce, apprenticeships and a tertiary education that does not require an ATAR.

Students embraced our theme of companionship in celebrating the day; students wore colourful outfits, decorated the halls with streamers, provided lollies for younger year levels and made plenty of noise. Their full school assembly was inclusive and fun. We warmly welcomed the many parents and guardians that attended.

Sophie Hammond and Walter Jackson, school captains, addressed the assembly. Sophie spoke to the wider audience: “To all the students, I have two bits of advice: Number one is work with your teachers. Believe it or not, they’re actually here to help you, and as you get older, they will become more like friends. Don’t be afraid of asking stupid questions…they will help you grow. Number two: be kind to everyone. Be inclusive. Be a companion.”

Walter gave a farewell message to his peers: “Keep the people who make you laugh close, chase what makes you happy, and never forget where you came from; because this place and these years have shaped you into who you are today. So, as we all go off in different directions, I hope you keep that same courage and curiosity that got you here. And no matter where life takes you, remember that this will always be where it all began. Thankyou.”

Over the course of Term Three, I invited each of our 80 staff members to a 15 minute meeting. At this meeting, I listened to responses to three questions:

- What is working well at FCJ College?

- What are areas for improvement?

- How can I, as principal, best support you in your role for our students?

I learnt a great deal about our college and our dedicated staff members. I learnt a great deal about myself.

In Term Four, I extend this invitation to you. While I would like to spend 15 minutes with each of you, it would be tricky. So, I ask that you complete the survey below. It has the same 3 questions particular to your context as a parent and guardian.

As a follow up to this survey, we will be hosting an evening in your community, Benalla, Mansfield and Euroa, further information will be distributed about these next week.
